To tread the salty deep is een solovoorstelling waarin fysieke, auditieve en verhalende lagen elkaar voortdurend versterken, wat resulteert in een voorstelling die het midden houdt tussen het mythologische en het punkachtige, tussen dans, geluidskunst en poëzie. De vrouwelijke stem en het vrouwelijke lichaam vormen de bron en de drijvende kracht achter dit podiumuniversum.
Het werk put uit onderzoek naar de figuur van de sirene als lens om het ‘othering’ van het vrouwelijk lichaam te onderzoeken – de demonisering, erotisering en controle ervan. In verschillende mythologieën wordt de sirene een gelaagd archetype waardoorheen het stuk verhalen verkent die opnieuw worden geïnterpreteerd en verbeeld door de compositie van spanningen, opeenstapelingen, wrijvingen en wiegende melodieën.

To tread the salty deep is a solo in which physical, sonic, and narrative layers continuously activate one another, generating a performance suspended between the mythological and the punk, between dance, sound art, and poetry. The female voice and body are the origin and driving force of this stage universe.
The work draws on research into the figure of the siren as a lens to examine the “othering” of the female body—its demonization, eroticization, and control. Across mythologies the siren becomes a layered archetype through which the piece explores narratives that are reinterpreted and reimagined through the composition of tensions, accumulations, frictions, and lulling melodies.
