Circus Dreams is een onderzoeksproject dat vertrekt vanuit de wens van Alice Davies om als circusartiest ruimtes te creëren voor lichamen op scène die zich niet hoeven te onderwerpen aan normen van ableïsme, schoonheid of leeftijd. Een ruimte waarin het circus zich manifesteert als een plek om de ‘ander’ te ontmoeten.
Alice Davies (trapezeartiest en circusmaker) en Jacq Palinckx (beeldend kunstenaar en muzikant) brengen hun eclectische achtergronden samen om de ruimte van het circus te onderzoeken en het lichaam opnieuw te kaderen. Vanuit het circus als vertrekpunt onderzoeken ze hoe objecten, lichamen en entiteiten de mogelijkheid in zich dragen van ‘alle dingen’. Ze laten zich inspireren door dromen als een manier om radicale experimenten mogelijk te maken: een basis van veiligheid en sereniteit creëert de ruimte om naar de wereld te kijken vanuit een alternatief – en soms absurd – perspectief.
In twee durational improvisaties werken Jacq en Alice met tableau vivant, tekeningen, geluid en suspensie. Ze zoeken naar een ontmoetingspunt tussen hun twee lichamen: naar de vertaling van datgene wat ze niet kennen.

Circus Dreams is a research project reflecting Alice Davies’s wish, as a circus artist, to create spaces for bodies on stage that do not condemn themselves to adhere to standards of ableism, beauty, or age, and to manifest that circus is the space to meet ‘the other’.
Alice Davies (trapeze artist and circus author) and Jacq Palinckx (visual artist and musician) bring their eclectic backgrounds together to explore the circus space and re-frame the body. Using circus as a starting point to manifest that objects, bodies, and entities contain the possibility ‘of all things’, they are inspired by dreaming as a way to facilitate radical experimentation, where a baseline of safety and serenity creates the space to look at the world in an alternative – and occasionally, absurd – way. In two durational improvisations, Jacq and Alice work with tableau vivant, drawing, sound and suspension, to find a meeting point between their two bodies: to find the translation of that which they do not know.
