In FUNNY BOOBS, an actress meets her French co-star on a film set in Marseille. What begins as a fictional kiss on a tennis court grows into a series of summers filled with sultry nights, conversations, rosé, and each other’s bodies. They do not fall in love, but they do become pregnant. What follows is their search for the right choice and the ways they deal with that loss. The woman reflects on what it means to be a woman, to be able to become a mother, and to not want or be able to do so at that specific moment. She tries to stand still with what will never exist. I wrote the text based on conversations with women who shared similar experiences, on books, and on my own process. What kept returning was a sense of loneliness: how women often carry this alone, even when someone is standing beside them. How quiet grief can be. With FUNNY BOOBS, I want to give words to what often remains unspoken. I want to question life, the role of women within parenthood, and the expectations imposed on us, gently, honestly, and without judgment.
