Platform In De Maak
Platform In De Maak (PIDM) is an artist-run organization that has been facilitating alternative spaces for emerging performing artists since 2019. The platform is a bottom-up initiative where emerging artists work together to address a shared need for presentation and experimental space, transforming it into a sustainable yet flexible infrastructure for new performing arts projects within the Flemish and Brussels professional arts sector. Since its inception, the platform has evolved to meet the changing needs of the artists who participate in and have access to the (infra)structure.
PIDM is seeking participating artists through an OPEN CALL with transparent criteria, prioritizing a shared sense of responsibility for the platform's structure, genuine motivation, and mutual commitment to the practices of others. Artists are also expected to submit a concrete artistic development plan. However, since the entire operation is driven by the artists themselves, PIDM focuses on the motivation behind that plan rather than the artistic content during the selection process. PIDM believes that the absence of artistic selection creates the right context for trust and experimentation, enabling artists to develop collaboratively within the field.
To date, more than 76 makers and collectives have participated in PIDM with their work. The platform's activities aim to bring makers together in a supportive network and to simultaneously disseminate their work to a broad audience. However, PIDM is not a production house, but a facilitator. This approach has already taken shape through performing arts festivals and maker days, with specific editions in 2019, 2021, and 2022 in Leuven, and through workshops and discussions. In September 2023, PIDM launched its first development program. Eighteen emerging makers completed an eighteen-month program consisting of workshops, residencies, maker days showcasing work in progress, and a festival. PIDM's second development program will launch in October 2025.
