Alice Davies (Londen, 1999) is circus- en performanceartieste die werkt met luchtacrobatie en suspensie. Haar praktijk wordt gevoed door de Alexandertechniek en Butohdans. Ze ontdekte de circuskunsten op achtjarige leeftijd en werd kort daarna verliefd op de trapeze. De voorbije achttien jaar is de trapeze een constante ‘ankerplek’ geworden om alle veranderingen rondom haar te kunnen duiden.
Alice beschouwt circus als een praktijk van vertaling: een manier om het ongrijpbare tastbaar te maken, en tegelijk een manier om te dromen. In presentatie en vorm laat ze zich inspireren door impressionistische en modernistische benaderingen van tijd, ruimte en perspectief. Door de intimiteit van het lichaam als focus te nemen, met viscerale beelden en een herpositionering van circusconventies, stellen haar performatieve werken de kunst van het kijken en bekeken worden in vraag.
Alice volgde twee jaar opleiding aan de Carampa Circus School en zette haar studies voort aan de Academy of Circus and Performance Art (Tilburg), waar haar gezelschap vandaag is gevestigd. Ze heeft daarnaast een achtergrond in beeldende kunst, muziek, acteren en literatuur.
In 2024 ontving Alice Davies de BNG Bank Circus Prize. Ze is verbonden aan Panama Pictures en start in 2026 een traject bij PLAN Brabant via Festival Circolo en United Cowboys.
Haar project Sustained gaat in 2026 in première op Festival Circolo. Via Makershuis Tilburg startte ze recent een nieuw werktraject met de titel Circus Dreams, dat ze verder ontwikkelt binnen Platform In De Maak. Daarnaast werkt Alice ook als outside eye en als collaborator in creaties van andere makers. In haar vrije tijd schrijft ze, geïnspireerd door de socratische dialoog, waarbij ze circus gebruikt als een lens om naar de wereld te kijken.

Alice Davies (London, 1999) is a circus and performance artist working with aerial suspension. Her practice is informed by Alexander technique and Butoh dance.
She discovered circus arts at the age of eight and quickly thereafter fell in love with the trapeze. Over the last eighteen years the trapeze has become a constant ‘touchpoint’ to acknowledge all surrounding change.
Alice views circus as a practice of translation – a way to give a tangible quality to the elusive, and a way to dream. In presentation and form, she is inspired by Impressionist and Modernist approaches to time, space, and perspective.
Using the intimacy of the body as a focus point, visceral imagery and the repositioning of circus convention, her performative works question ‘the art of watching and of being watched’.
Alice spent two years at Carampa Circus School (Madrid) and went on to the Academy of Circus and Performance Art (Tilburg, where her company is now based).
Alice has a background in fine arts, music, acting, and literature.
