Myra Schouten is een performer, theatermaker en werkt met videokunst. Ze is afgestudeerd aan de Toneelacademie Maastricht, waar zij haar bachelor in performance heeft gedaan. Via methodiek en visuele taal verenigt zij video en theater in een blackbox. Op het podium behuisd haar aanwezigheid een stille intensiteit, is er sprake van een enigmatisch emotionele onderstroom.

Aan de hand van het klein menselijke verhaal brengt zij de maatschappelijke structuren in kaart. In het onderzoek is het persoonlijke en theoretische in dialoog met elkaar. Naarmate het proces vordert verweven de twee bronnen zich. Thematisch is zij op zoek naar onderwerpen waarvan de thematiek wankelt. “Theater is een vrijplaats om mijn persoonlijk activisme in twijfel te trekken.”

De eeuwige twijfelaar, Myra, transformeert het inhoudelijk onderzoek naar poëtische en vervreemdende beelden voor het experimenteel theater.

Myra Schouten (1999) is a performer and filmmaker. She graduated from the Institute for Performative Arts Maastricht as a performer. In her work, she brings film and theater together through methodology and visual language. On stage her presence embodies a quiet intensity, simmering beneath the surface, an elusive emotional undercurrent.

Through the lens of intimate human stories she strives to grasp the societal structures surrounding her. The research begins with personal narratives alongside larger political developments. As the process unfolds, these two sources increasingly intertwine. She is drawn to themes where ethics are precarious.

Personal, literary, and philosophical sources are transformed into an estranging visual language. Forming the foundation for experimental theater.
