“If we could understand, recognize and possess the other, he would not be the other.” Byung-Chul Han
During the making process we came across this sentence from the book “The Tired Society” by Byung-Chull Han. It prompted us to investigate portraits.
In our portrait series we question the form “portrait” by portraying figures without a face and expression.
Do we still recognize ourselves in this or does this only have an alienating effect?
We want to continue to challenge the viewer and ourselves as makers to take a closer look at the mask we all put on.
What is the secret behind the casing?
